Mayor attends White House event

Mayor Eskil S. “Skip” Danielson of Byram Township has been invited to the White House for a speech by President George W. Bush entitled “Remarks on Volunteering.”  The speech occurred on Monday, September 8, 2008, on the South Lawn.

Mayor Danielson received his invitation for having been a very active volunteer for various local, county, state and federal causes. He has been a volunteer for various organizations for all of his adult life. Among those programs and organizations he has volunteered for are:

•    Volunteer firefighter since 1960 – exempt firefighter since 1972
•    Volunteer first aider and EMT since 1960 – still active EMT
•    American Red Cross First Aid Instructor – 1960 – 1985
•    American Heart Association CPR Instructor – 1965 – 1985
•    Sussex County Civil Defense and Disaster Control/Emergency Management – 1971 - 1998
•    Byram Township Little League Coach – 1972 - 1990
•    Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Counselor – 1973 – present
•    US Dept. of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve     Ombudsman – 1978 – present
•    West Morris YMCA Board of Trustees – 1976 – 1986
•    Byram Township Board of Education – two terms
•    Lenape Valley Regional High School Board of Education – two terms
•    US Dept. of Homeland Security Citizens Corps Program Coordinator –   2002 – present

Mayor Danielson enjoyed attending the White House speech and to being able to carry the President’s message on the ever-increasing importance of volunteering to the very fabric of our American way of life.
